“I have always had a love for the human body and for people. I have a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Saginaw Valley State University and have spent the last several years working in hospitals as a clinical exercise physiologist. My career in kinesiology has taken me from cardiac rehab to physical medicine to oncology, and most recently to the VA hospital, working with veterans. I've taught exercise and yoga on a clinical level in all of these positions as a form of treatment in a patient's healing, and it's the most amazing thing to experience.
I never planned on opening a yoga studio. Someone called me and said, ‘We heard you are an amazing yoga instructor. Would you like to open a studio in a building we are renovating?’ And I said, ‘No, thanks.’ Long story short, I got a very clear and direct message from God. I resigned from my position with the federal government, and Sanctuary Yoga was born.”
"Yoga is actually a mental practice, so flexibility, the shape of your body, it doesn't matter. We are a beginner-friendly studio. You can be brand-new to yoga and feel confident as we guide you through classes like Slow Flow and Gentle Vinyasa."
As students grow more comfortable in their practice, the studio also provides opportunities to explore new challenges and deepen their experience. Whether someone is looking to build strength, increase flexibility, or simply try something different, the class lineup is designed to meet students wherever they are on their journey and encourage them to keep evolving.
"We also have more challenging classes to make you feel empowered like Hot Vinyasa, Barre and Pilates. We offer 9D Breathwork, private classes, sound baths, specialized yoga for athletes, and yoga for children. We have 10 incredible instructors with the absolute best hearts."
“Sanctuary Yoga is about connecting to yourself a little bit deeper and being a part of a loving, supportive community. Everyone is there for the same reasons, to quiet the mind by moving the body. We want everyone to feel how important and worthy they are. Our members and instructors will end up becoming your friends and you will look forward to classes- we always have fun. Our instructors will welcome you by name, chat with you about life, and then guide you through the most amazing class that will make you forget about all the busy thoughts on your mind. We have created a beautiful, peaceful space where everyone is welcome, the inflexible, the unathletic, the stressed out- we've got a spot for you and are so happy every time you walk through those doors.”
Sanctuary Yoga knows that sometimes the biggest hurdle is simply stepping through the door, so they've made it their mission to ensure that first step feels inviting, comfortable, and completely judgment-free.
“It's ok to feel nervous about coming- showing up is the hardest part. We have mats and everything you need. We offer classes 7 days a week and we have an amazing intro offer- 2 weeks of unlimited classes for only $39 so you can find what you love. Find everything you need on our website. We have a spot waiting for you!”
